A partnership between Netflix and Penguin Random House was announced this morning, and the first Stranger Things books will be out in November, with more to follow in 2019.

The first book, titled Stranger Things: World Turned Upside Down: The Official Behind-The-Scenes Companion, is exactly what it sounds like, and the other fall title (as yet untitled) will be a “gift book” for young readers; while little information is available, the publisher says it will contain “advice, wisdom, and warnings from the Stranger Things world,” which I am taking to mean that it will be mainly images and quotes, packaged for kids.

The 2019 releases will begin with a prequel novel about Eleven’s mother, written by my fave, Gwenda Bond. (You may know her Lois Lane trilogy, her circus books, or perhaps The Supernormal Sleuthing Service MG novels she writes with her husband, Christopher Rowe.)

Elizabeth Schaeffer, the creative director at Del Rey (which is a Penguin Random House imprint), had this to say:

No news yet on the other books, which will be for both adults and young readers, but I am hoping for some good old fashioned adventure stories, hopefully focused on girls, and ideally at least one choose-your-own-adventure title.
