Get Your Coloring On With These Adult Coloring Book Comic Books
We have officially hit peak adult coloring book craze—there’s swearing coloring books and presidential candidate coloring books—so naturally there’s adult coloring books of graphic novels. To be honest I would have thought the movement had started with coloring books of comic books because it seems like the perfect, and easiest, adaptation. The fandom is already built. Basically, it’s a win-win for everyone whether you color as your modern day “Calgon take me away,” like to get your creative juices flowing, or have no reason other than you just enjoy it. Whatever the reason here are 7 adult coloring book comic books you can be the colorist for.
Kickin’ It Old School Coloring Book (Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles) by Random House, Patrick Spaziante (Illustrator): Cowabunga! Order a pizza and get your crayons because four ninja turtles, who happen to share names with Renaissance artists, need to be brought back to the world of color! And if your hand cramps and you need a little brake here’s the complete awesome history of the TMNT.
Coloring DC: Wonder Woman by various artists including David Finch, Phil Jimenez, George Pérez, Emanuela Lupacchino (Cover): Can’t wait for the new Wonder Woman film to release and don’t know what to do with all that excitement? I suggest putting the trailer on loop, or streaming Lynda Carter as Wonder Woman, while coloring iconic covers and splash pages from past comics.
Supergirl: An Adult Coloring Book (Dc Comics Coloring Book) by various artists including Amanda Conner, Michael Turner, Jamal Igle, Ian Churchill (Cover): While Kara Danvers embraces who she is on the new Supergirl show we can all embrace our love of coloring and our wish-I-could-fly dreams.
I Hate Fairyland Adult Coloring Book by Skottie Young: I shouted my love for this comic in our Best Books We Read in July and was thrilled to see I can also color in all the gory, violent, funny, silly, sadistic and adorableness.
The Walking Dead: Rick Grimes Adult Coloring Book by Robert Kirkman (Author), Charlie Adlard (Artist): Brains, zombies, and crayons! A perfect combination releasing just in time for season 7’s October premiere. You may want to get some extra gray and red crayons—for accuracy of course.
Color Your Own Deadpool by Ed McGuinness (Illustrator), Tony Moore (Illustrator): For the anti-hero fans–*raises hand, jumps up and down–here’s Deadpool in all his you-need-to-add-the-red glory. I’m guessing Deadpool earns the “adult” label on the adult coloring books.
Coloring DC: Batman-Hush Vol. 1 (Dc Comics Coloring Book) by Jeph Loeb (Author), Jim Lee (Illustrator): You can set your who’s the best Batman argument aside for now–*whispers Michael Keaton–because this is all about coloring in chapters from Batman: Hush of our man caped in black.
