Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone has been translated into over 74 languages. As a reader, you may (or may not) know that translations of fantasy, especially good translations, are rarely word for word. Room often needs to be made for cultural references, wordplay, and in the case of Harry Potter, an abundance of made-up words.
