WHAT IS IT?

Read Harder is an annual reading challenge that Book Riot has been hosting since 2015. Every year, Book Riot selects 24 reading tasks designed to expand our reading horizons, explore new genres, and diversify our TBRs. You can use the same book for multiple tasks or read a separate one for each. Do comics, audiobooks, or novellas count? Of course they do! You get to decide how to approach this challenge: we promise we won’t be checking your work.

As Read Harder has grown and changed over the years, we’ve seen a community of passionate readers spring up around it, scattered across many different social media platforms. That’s why we started the Read Harder community, where we can share our progress and recommendations with like-minded readers all in one place.

Not sure how to get started on the challenge? Throughout the year, we’ll provide guidance on each task. On alternating weeks, we’ll be recommending books for every task as well as sharing other interesting readathons and reading challenges from across the internet. We also have a community check-in every week where we can all share what we’ve been reading and how we’re progressing through the tasks.

SHOULD I UPGRADE TO PAID?

The Read Harder community is primarily a paid subscription, allowing us to have a close-knit, moderated discussion space. There are free previews of each of the newsletters, but they’re only a small snippet of the whole post. Paid subscribers also get access to our weekly community check-ins and chats, as well as commenting privileges on every post.
