The Best New Mysteries, According to Goodreads
The editors over at Goodreads have looked at this year’s mysteries and compiled a list they think their 150+ million members would like. The list claims to focus on cozy mysteries, and it mentions how, as we’ve explored before, the escapism and softness of cozy reads has become more sought after these days. With that said, this particular list has a few mysteries that don’t quite fit under the cozy label. Still, this list is great start to your 2025 mystery reading.
It includes bibliophiles and rogue nuns, and even serial killers getting married. There are bestselling authors like Jesse Q. Sutanto and her meddling Aunties, as well as a new foodie mystery coming from Vivien Chien (The Chow Maniac).
Below is a sampling of the best new mysteries coming out this year, according to Goodreads:
Detective Aunty (Kausar Khan Investigates, #1) by Uzma Jalaluddin
A Serial Killer’s Guide to Marriage by Asia Mackay
The Busybody Book Club by Freya Sampson
A Murder for Miss Hortense: A Mystery by Mel Pennant
Vera Wong’s Guide to Snooping on a Dead Man (Vera Wong, #2) by Jesse Q. Sutanto
Murder in the Dressing Room by Holly Stars
The Chow Maniac (Noodle Shop Mystery, #11) by Vivien Chien
Murder Runs in the Family by Tamara Berry
The Really Dead Wives of New Jersey by Astrid Dahl
Death in the Downline by Maria Abrams
