Chances are you’ve entered an ever elusive book giveaway on Goodreads. You may have also heard some grumblings amongst the literary community about the new Goodreads Giveaways program that is launching on January 9, 2018. I’ll talk about what that looks like for readers looking for book deals, as well as other sites where you can find free book giveaways.

The new Goodreads Giveaways details

Here’s the skinny:

  • Only U.S. residents will be eligible, this includes both Kindle and Print formats.
  • The Standard Package will start at $119, with the Premium package at $599.

Ok, so what does this mean? International readers, you’re SOL for the time being. It sounds as if there are plans to eventually expand the audience, but no timeline was provided. As for the price tag, for the big pub houses this will be just a drop in the bucket. But for smaller presses and/or authors trying to self-pub, it might prevent the ability to purchase a giveaway package. So, the variety in books on offer might be limited come January 9.

If you’re a U.S. resident, congrats and keep entering GR giveaways to your heart’s content. If you’re looking for some other options for book giveaways, look no further…(Also check out this listing of places to find free books online!)

Book Riot

Pardon the self-plug. When you subscribe to Book Riot’s newsletter, you’ll also get access to our exclusive giveaways. You can also enter to win bookish swag and gift cards to your favorite bookstore.

Also click over to our Giveaways page to find all of our ongoing free book giveaways. We’ve got YA giveaways, your favorite new releases, and more.

First to Read

Presented by Penguin Random House, First to Read provides readers with an opportunity to read upcoming releases early in an eBook format. You can enter the drawing pool for a chance to win, or use your reward points to ensure you get a copy.

Earn points by visiting the site, requesting copies, reading excerpts of available books, writing reviews, and sharing content. You are not required to write a review of the books you are given advance access to, but doing so may ensure better chances of being selected again in the future.

Bookish First

Every week, Bookish First offers new books for readers to preview and win before they hit bookshelves. It’s really easy: Just read the provided First Looks of the book currently on offer, give a mini review just based on the excerpt, and you’ll be entered in the raffle.

Similar to First to Read, you collect points by writing mini reviews (even if you do not win the giveaway); earn more points by sharing your reviews on other book community websites, and once you hit a magic number, you can choose one of the books on offer for free. Even more book giveaways are available at host site, Bookish.
