On Monday, I shared some of the results from the Read Harder Halfway Check-In Survey — specifically, your favorite books you’ve read for the challenge so far this year. While I mentioned all of the titles named by more than one respondent, I couldn’t keep the rest of the list to myself, so I’m sharing the rest a couple of tasks at a time. Here are the new favorite books you discovered when completing tasks #3 and #4, plus what I’ve been reading lately.

What I’ve Been Reading This Week

Since I updated you last, I finished the audiobook of Every Time You Hear That Song by Jenna Voris, which reminded me a bit of The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo, but YA and bisexual.

The Pale Queen cover

I also read The Pale Queen by Ethan M. Aldridge, which is a middle grade sapphic gothic romance graphic novel! It’s gorgeous, and I loved the references to folklore.

I finished up task #9 by reading A Place of Our Own: Six Spaces That Shaped Queer Women’s Culture by June Thomas, a recommendation from a librarian friend of mine. It had lots of interesting facts, but it felt a little unfocused to me.

Yesterday, I finished Five-Star Stranger by Kat Tang for the August 6th episode of All the Books. It’s a fascinating exploration of the idea of being a “rental person,” including being hired to pretend to be a child’s father for years. (He visits once a week.) It was a melancholic and thought-provoking read.

I’m currently listening to Wish You Weren’t Here by Erin Baldwin, a sapphic YA book set at summer camp — it seemed like a good seasonal read!
