Introducing The Riot Read
One of the great pleasures of being a reader is stumbling across something unexpected. Something that we might not have picked up on our own, but for some reason we grabbed it….and then it grabs us. It’s rare because we tend to pick the kinds of books we already like, because, well, we know what we like. The magic happens when you discover something you didn’t know that you’d like.
That’s what The Riot Read does. Every month, for about the price of a new hardcover from your local bookstore, we’ll send you a great book. Something we love and that we think open-minded readers will love. Each book will be a new release, something that’s been out no longer than a couple of weeks. And it’ll be a surprise. That’s right; we’re not going reveal the title ahead of time, so you won’t know what it is until you open it up. It’s like getting a book gift from your nerdiest reader friend each and every month. Sounds fun, right?
The picks will be mostly fiction, but fiction of many stripes. In any given month, the book could be a mystery, or YA, or a romance, or historical fiction, or good old literary fiction. The only requirement for us is that the book makes for good reading. If you’re not up for this kind of reading, well, the Riot Read might not be for you. We get that.
But before you make up your mind here’s what else we’re going to do. Each book will come with a letter describing why we love the book, written by one of our contributors. And each month, we’ll write and record a bunch of original content about the book, including a dedicated podcast where Book Riot contributors and other bookish folk will talk about each month’s pick. The written content will be different from title to title, but it will include a range of material, from author interviews, to live chats, to further reading ideas, to….whatever we think will make reading the book more fun and exciting.
That’s the idea of The Riot Read: each book, and each month, is an adventure.
And, in typical Riot fashion, we’ll be including extras… because that’s how we roll.
