High School Pulls Extreme Right-Wing Summer Reading List After Complaints: Critical Linking, June 27

Critical Linking is sponsored by Libby from OverDrive .

The list contains 31 titles, including Liberalism Is a Mental Disorder: Savage Solutions, The Politically Incorrect Guide to Global Warming and Environmentalism, and a book by Ann Coulter. Students were asked to choose one book to do a report on.

According to members of the school community, the teacher, Gene Ponder, injects his lessons with far right-wing views.

Ponder assigned an identical reading list in 2014, which was available on the school’s website until it was taken down on Wednesday afternoon.

There’s right wing and then there’s “holy wow you need a hug.”

Even before 1984’s official Broadway opening on Thursday night, audiences on the Great White Way were — at times quite literally — struggling to stomach the production’s combination of prescient themes and viscerally experimental staging. There have been multiple cases of fainting and vomiting at the show since it’s been in previews, police have intervened because of audience members screaming at actors (and each other) mid-performance, and earlier this week, a mandatory age restriction for entry was implemented.

…fainting??

Sarah Jessica Parker is helping to launch a new book club that you can join.

The “Sex and the City” star is partnering with the American Library Association to launch Book Club Central, a new online platform for reading recommendations, and the actress-turned-curator already has her first book pick.

As the new honorary chair of Book Club Central, Parker has selected “No One Is Coming to Save Us” by first-time novelist Stephanie Powell Watts.
