Don’t Even Ask: Authors’ Least Favorite Questions

Book Riot Live will take place in NYC on November 12 & 13. Get your tickets for $20 off with code BOOKNERD!

In the Book Riot Live Interview, we asked speakers our burning questions about the writing process, publishing, and their Hogwarts House (naturally).

Q: What’s your least favorite question to get as a writer?

Jeph Jacques: What are the advantages of publishing online versus a traditional publisher?

Joni Rodgers: Anything that starts with, “Since you don’t really have a job, could you… ?”

Meg Medina: Where do you get your ideas? Also, do I have “permission” to write your story.

Ayize Jama-Everett: Where do you get your ideas?

Nisi Shawl: “Where do you get your ideas from?” I mean, come on, where don’t I get them from? That’s why I’m a writer, dude.

Charlie Jane Anders: Would you like a bottle of single-malt scotch?

Alyssa Cole: “I am scared to write POC; how do I do it?” (Seriously. Don’t ask me this.)

TL;DR: Probably don’t ask authors where they get their ideas from.
