Every week, a different Panelteer will give you a rundown of the comics they’re most looking forward to for the week. Floppies, trades and omniboo are all fair game here. This week, Caroline tells us whats on her pull list.

This is the first week of DC’s big Convergence event, and I’m going to level with you: I’m still not sure what that’s all about. What matters to me is that there are going to be some miniseries featuring characters we haven’t seen much of (or at all) since the new 52 relaunch a few years back.

Convergence Question #1 by Greg Rucka and Cully Hamner

Convergence Question #1
Renee Montoya’s transformation from Gotham police detective to the costumed vigilante known as the Question was one of my favorite stories in all of comics. Writer Greg Rucka oversaw much of this journey in Gotham Central, 52 (not to be confused with the New 52 – that’s a column for another day), and finally in a series of adventures (collected as The Question: Pipeline) created with artist Cully Hamner. The Rucka/Hamner team is back for this mini, which also features another favorite of Rucka’s (and mine), Harvey “Two-Face” Dent.

Convergence Batgirl #1 by Alisa Kwitney, Rick Leonardi, Mark Pennington, and Dan Green

Writer Alisa Kwitney is new to me, and I’m excited to see her take on Stephanie Brown, especially in a teamup with another sometime Batgirl, Cassandra Cain. (Tim Drake can come too, I guess.)

Over in Image-land, it’s space opera week. Reliable favorites Copperhead and Saga have new issues.

There’s also ODY-C #4 by Matt Fraction and Christian Ward

This book’s psychedelic color palette looks like nothing else, and I’m just the right kind of amateur classics nerd to love this twisty story of a gender-swapped intergalactic Odyssey.

Southern Cross # 2 by Becky Cloonan, Andy Belanger, and Lee Loughridge

Southern Cross #2 cover

Southern Cross is the newest entry in the suddenly crowded space adventure category. (No complaints here. Space adventures forever.) I wasn’t exactly sure what to make of issue 1. There are threads of murder mystery, shipboard intrigue, and a protagonist who is keeping lots of secrets. I’m definitely curious to read more.

Spider-Woman #6 by Dennis Hopeless and Javier Rodriguez

Spider-Woman # 6 cover

I skipped the relaunch of this series at first, but I enjoy Dennis Hopeless’s writing, and the addition of Javier Rodriguez on art duties got me on board. Jessica Drew is an endlessly fascinating character, and I’m ready to follow a new chapter in her life.

Storm #10 by Greg Pak, Victor Ibáñez, Alejandro Barrionuevo, and Stephanie Hans

Storm #10 cover

I’m a long time X-Men fan, but can I admit Pak and Ibáñez’s Storm book is one of the of the few X-titles I’m following with any diligence these days? Pak writes great one or two issue stories that manage to capture the feel of old-school X-titles, while providing perspective that feels new on this key X-Men character.

I’m rounding out my Marvel pull list with All-New Hawkeye #2 and Captain Marvel #14.

So what are you picking up this week?
