Inbox/Outbox: February 13, 2015

In Inbox/Outbox, we document the rhythm of readers’ lives by sharing comics we acquired, the comics we finished, and the next comics we plan to read each week.

Inbox (Comics Acquired)

march-john-lewisMarch, Books 1 and 2 by John Lewis and Andrew Aydin (Top Shelf Productions) – I’ve heard pretty amazing things about these books, and I’ve been waiting to listen to our Oh, Comics! podcast on March until I’ve gotten these read. I think this is a great way to deliver history, and I’m really excited to read these two books.

The Baby-Sitters Club Graphix #1: Kristy’s Great Idea by Ann M. Martin and Raina Telgemeier (Graphix, April 28) – I basically inhaled Babysitters Club books as a child, so I was pretty stoked when I opened up a package and found this. Apparently, the first four novels were released as black and white comics a couple of years ago, but with Raina Telgemeier’s newfound (and well-deserved) fame, they’re rereleasing them in full color! You can bet I’ll read all of these; the first releases in April.

Outbox (Comics Finished)

Thor #1Thor #1–4 by Jason Aaron and Russell Dauterman (Marvel) – I finally decided to jump on this bandwagon and read all about Lady Thor. The art is epic, and I love the character, though I have to admit I think they’re dragging out the mystery of who Thor is a little too much—I’m ready to find out and move on with the story. This weekend, I’ll hopefully be running by my comics shop to pick up the latest issue from my pull list.

Wonder Woman Vol. 1: Blood (The New 52) by Brian Azzarello, Cliff Chiang, and Tony Akins (DC) – I did not have high hopes for this, given what people have said about The New 52 generally, but I was pleasantly surprised by this volume. Cliff Chiang’s art is just amazing and I enjoyed the new version of Diana’s history. This really made me want to go back and read old Wonder Woman comics, but I think I’ll finish digging into this run first.

Y: The Last Man by Brian K. Vaughn and Pia Guerra (Vertigo) – I finished up this whole run, and let me tell you, my heart is broken. It sucked me in completely. My feelings are still too raw to talk about it any more coherently than this.

In the Queue (What I’m Reading Next)

TheWickedAndDivine_vol1-1The Wicked + The Divine Vol. 1: The Faust Act by Kieron Gillon and Jamie McKelvie (Image) – This has admittedly been on my list for a very long time, but Chris’s piece here on Panels this week finally convinced me that I need to sit down and read it. I’ve always thought the cover images for the issues are absolutely stunning, and I’m betting the art inside is just as incredible.

Descender #1 by Jeff Lemire and Dustin Nguyen (Image, March 4)  I have been hearing buzz about this issue for awhile, so I’m really excited to dive into this and see what all the fuss is about. Jeff Lemire is enough to make me want to read any comic.

How about you? What comics did you read this week?
