How to Read Widely and Discover Even More Books
Every reader has their wheelhouse, whether we’re talking about a certain type of book, a genre, a category, or even specific features like found family or messy wealthy people. It’s as comforting to know what you like as it is unfathomable to consider the Herculean task of sifting through the endless reading materials at our disposal today without a preference to guide you. But a wheelhouse can also be a trap. It can lull you into a curation fugue state and surprise you with the dead end that is a reading slump. Always reading in your wheelhouse can be akin to eating your favorite food day in and day out. This happened to me.
19 New Mystery & Thrillers for July 2025 To Keep You Sleuthing
July is bursting at the seams with so many new releases that wrangling this list was a challenge. I aimed to round up a wide range of new mystery and thriller releases that include middle grade to adult, a ton of fun tropes, a variety of mystery cases, and types of investigators—from amateur to forensic scientist!
A Riveting Memoir About a Year of Self-Discovery
When I REALLY love an author, I’ll read anything they write—a grocery list, instructions on building furniture, menus—I’d read them all. For me, Melissa Febos is one of those writers. Her prose is stunning. Her insights are sharp and creatively presented. Her anecdotes are spot on. So, when I heard that she had a new memoir coming out about her year of celibacy, I couldn’t sign up fast enough.
Beat the Heat With July’s Coolest New Comics and Graphic Novels
We’re in the thick of it now, friends. The long days, the summer heat, the lazy hours spent at the beach or out on the patio with the barbecue sizzling…for some, it’s the best time of the year. While there’s still plenty of time to enjoy the outdoors, as a professional nerd, I encourage you to take a break from all that swimming and sunbathing (or despairing and doomscrolling, depending on the day) to relax with one (or more!) of the awesome new comics and graphic novels being released in July 2025.
8 of the Best New Nonfiction Books Out in July 2025
In celebration of true stories, I’ve collected eight of some of the most exciting nonfiction titles hitting shelves in July. You might be new to nonfiction or a true stories pro, but whatever the case, there’s sure to be something on this list that catches your eye.
Mystery & Espionage Reign Supreme in July’s New Historical Fiction
July already? Summer is racing by, and it’s a new month once again. You know what that means. New historical fiction books! Just in case your reading list is starting to run low, I’m here with six new historical fiction releases to keep you busy. You didn’t think I’d forgotten about your TBR, did you? These six new releases will take you on a journey through the recent past, from 1890s India to 1940s France. There are stories of revolutionaries and art forgers and real-life spies. In fact, now that I think of it, these books lean decidedly toward the world of mystery and espionage.
New YA Book Releases for July 2, 2025
We’re here to talk books and all of the new titles hitting shelves this first week of July. As foreshadowed over the last several weeks, things begin to slow down in the publishing world until later in August. All that means is there will be fewer titles to highlight each week for a bit. But that’s also your opportunity to catch up with the absolute bounty we’ve seen hit shelves so far in 2025.
