A Celebration of Pet Appreciation Week…Book Style

Did you know last week was Pet Appreciation Week? In honor of this annual celebration, I couldn’t help but ask my fellow Rioters to share photos of their delightfully bookish pets. No need to say much more than that, is there? If you love books and animals, this post is for you. And yes, yes, yes, if you have a photo of your pet — furry, scaly, feathered, soft, rough, whatever — you should drop it right into the comments. Kelly Jensen I have three cats and a pretty intense wild animal situation in my yard (at least two bunnies, frogs, and other creatures that enjoy a fenced-in yard free of children and dogs). I couldn’t pick a single photo to include in this post, so you’re getting all of them.                 Jesse Doogan Jesse’s cat Bernadette is totally into comics.       Jamie Canaves Jamie’s dog Dinky doesn’t have a preference when it comes to the ebook vs print debate.         Justina Ireland Justina’s dog can’t resist a good YA novel (who can?)       Karina Glaser Karina has not one, not two, but three different pet species represented here. . . and all three love a little reading time.             Kim Ukura Kim’s cat Hannah is a perfect reading companion.         Liberty Hardy As Liberty says, cats, books, and Gillian Anderson are her favorite things. Zainab Williams Tabitha reads Magonia by Maria Dahvana Headley and lounges on King Stork by Howard Pyle & illustrated by Trina Schart Hyman.         Tasha Brandstatter Tasha’s dog Calypso lounges with Too Bad To Die by Francine Mathews.         Valerie Michael It might look like Winston is stuck behind the couch, but really, he’s just taking a shelfie.         Lynn Crothers Flora enjoys a passage from Independent People.         Kristina Pino Talk about an animal who takes the book life seriously.           Danika Ellis Danika’s roommate’s cat Pance enjoys a good read     Maddie Rodriguez Maddie shares her space with two bookish kitties, Jack and Ziggy (who is not into being used as a bookmark, it seems)         Troy Wiggins Troy’s dog Prince Rogers William is an “expuptriate” of South Korea who enjoys a little Nnedi Okorafor.       Angel Cruz Just chilling with some of Angel’s favorite books this year       Derek Attig Beatrix and Icabod chilling with their current reads…as is Penelope.           Rachel Weber Some pups are less into reading than others, but that doesn’t make them any less cute.
