There and Back Again: Time Travel Romances
Time travel romances are also a great escape from the mundane present, and also for the complication of a star-crossed romance with all of its complications, but a guaranteed happy ending. We all deserve a little trip away from the right now. Pack your bags, we’re going time-traveling. Keep your hands and arms inside the vehicle and beware of time slips, loops, and wrinkles in time.
How the Kent State Shootings Still Haunt America
Drawing on archival research and interviews with survivors, Backderf relays how, in early May 1970, tensions rose between law enforcement and the students at Kent State University — not just protestors, but all students: the authorities did not bother to distinguish between the few setting buildings on fire and the many just living their lives. Things came to a head on May 4th when, for reasons that remain fuzzy (Backderf blames incompetent leadership, aggravated and overworked guardsmen, and an unknown amount of interference from government saboteurs and spies), the National Guard opened fire, injuring nine and killing four. Two of the fatalities were peaceful protestors; two were bystanders. None deserved what happened to them.

Backlist Historical Fiction Published Before 2000
We’re not travelling quite as far back as Ancient Greece for the publication of the historical fiction titles we’re looking at today, but they still depict a different era of writing historical fiction: the 20th century. These five books are just a handful of the excellent backlist historical fiction published before 2000. The books themselves feature stories ranging all the way from ancient Athens to 1930s India. Check them out to broaden your historical fiction horizons.
Read This Books and Get Into the Surprising Early Days of Reality TV
Writer and television critic Emily Nussbaum tracks the history of reality television back to the early days of radio when hosts would play pranks on unsuspecting participants. I knew so little about the origins of the concept of reality TV, and Nussbaum breaks it down, noting key figures behind the camera who were instrumental in creating the foundation for reality TV as we know it today.
