Every week, I look at the biggest bestseller lists and note the overlap to see the bestselling books of the week, according to all the lists. It’s always interesting to see the buzzy books of the moment, but the selection typically leaves something to be desired. That list is usually very predictable and anything but diverse. It points to just how monolithic (white, straight, cis, abled, etc) the biggest books are right now, representing only a very narrow range of voices.

That said, there are different ways to look at the bestseller lists. That weekly feature only looks at the top ten of each list. Today, I’ve gone through every one of the New York Times, USA Today, Amazon, and Indie Bestseller lists in full to find the bestselling queer books of the week. With this broader scope, I’ve found seven queer books on one or more bestseller lists, from literary fiction to YA SFF. Let’s dive in!

Unfortunately, like the rest of the bestseller list, these books are disproportionately by white authors. Some queer new releases out this week that deserve more attention include So Many Stars: An Oral History of Trans, Nonbinary, Genderqueer, and Two-Spirit People of Color by Caro De Robertis, Get Real, Chloe Torres by Crystal Maldonado, and Death in the Cards by Mia K. Manansala.

Here are the seven queer bestselling books of the week:

Martyr! by Kaveh Akbar (USA Today, Indie Bestsellers)

Love at Second Sight by F.T. Lukens (NYT, Indie Bestsellers)

Hotter in the Hamptons by Tinx, ghostwritten by Gabrielle Korn (USA Today)

Awakened by A. E. Osworth (USA Today)

Monk and Robot by Becky Chambers (USA Today)

Beetle & the Chimera Carnival by Aliza Layne (Indie Bestsellers)

Iron Widow by Xiran Jay Zhao (Indie Bestsellers)

I’m happy to see Awakened on this list: this trans fantasy novel was a five star read for me! You can read my full review for why.
