S. Zainab Williams

Executive Director, Content

S. Zainab would like to think she bleeds ink but the very idea makes her feel faint. She writes fantasy and horror, and is currently clutching a manuscript while groping in the dark. Find her on Twitter: @szainabwilliams.

Enter to win a Blind Date with a Book!

Ever walked by a shelf in your local bookstore full of books wrapped in brown paper for sale? They’re blind dates with books, where you buy a book without knowing the title, the cover, or the author, and it’s a great way to discover new books you might never have picked for yourself. We’re giving away five blind dates with books–Executive Editor Amanda Nelson will take a trip to Chop Suey, her local indie in Richmond, Virginia, and pick five at random off their shelves to mail to five random winners! Enter here to win your own blind date with a book.

That’s it for the fall 2019 edition of Persist! It was so great to chat with the many readers who showed up for our feminist book club (hosted entirely on Instagram Live!). We read and discussed Thick by Tressie McMillan Cottom, which explored so many urgent issues about being a black woman in America.

Persist feminist book club

We’ll be back next quarter in December for the next book! Our Associate Editor Vanessa Diaz will be hosting our next book club, and she’s picked The Good Immigrant: 26 Writers Reflect on America, edited by Nikesh Shukla and Chimene Suleyman.

Keep an eye on our Instagram account for the time and dates of the next chats!
