Songs From A Bollywood TFiOS
Rioters Swapna and Preeti are bringing you this edition of Desi Book Riot.
Bollywood is the biggest film industry in the world. Bigger than Hollywood. They are also really, really into making Hollywood remakes. So, what’s next on the Bollywood remake docket? As you may have guessed, it’s The Fault in Our Stars.
A major staple in Bollywood films is the music. It can go without saying that 99% of mainstream bollywood cinema consists of musicals. (Which are great.)
But what would the music from TFiOS sound like? We, not being actual songwriters, sampled some classic Bollywood cinema and updated the lyrics to better suit the ‘one sick love story’ that is Augustus Waters and Hazel Grace. For edification, we’ve included the videos to the original songs.
Please do enjoy.
To the tune of “Ek Ladaki ko Dekha” (1942 A Love Story)
“On Seeing One Girl”
Augustus would sing this after his first time seeing Hazel at the group.
Ek ladaki ko dekha to aisa laga…
When I saw this girl, she seemed to me like…
Jaise ek cigarette
Like a cigarette;
Jaise nakali peir
Like a fake leg;
Jaise bimaar bache
Like sick kids;
Jaise ek sundar rupaka
Like a beautiful metaphor
To the tune of “Saajanji Ghar Aaye” (Kuch Kuch Hota Hai)
“Lover Has Come Home”
Augustus sings this when comes to pick Hazel up on the way to Amsterdam.
Tere ghar aaya, main aaya tujhko lene
I’ve come to your home, I’ve come to take you away
Tamanna ke badle mein tamanna ka nazraana dene
I’ve come to exchange the gift of my wish for yours
Meri har rupaka kya bole hai, sun sun sun
What is my every metaphor saying, listen, listen, listen
Ladka ko ek peir hain, Ladki ke paas oxygen tank
The boy has one leg, the girl has an oxygen tank
To the tune of “Tujhe Dekha” (Dilwale Dulhania Le Jaayenge)
“Seeing You”
Hazel and Augustus sing this together in Amsterdam, before they meet with Van Houten.
Tujhe dekha to yeh jaana sanam
On seeing you, I’ve learned this sweetheart
Yeh pipe nahin pipe hai sanam
This pipe is not a pipe, sweetheart
Ab Amsterdam se ghar jaaye hum
Now we’ll go home from Amsterdam
Mere Ananta mein mar jaaye hum
We will die in my infinity
To the tune of “Radha Kaise na Jale” (Lagaan)
“How Could Radha Not be Jealous?”
Hazel sings this after finding Gus at the gas station.
Augustus ko parking lot mein jab cigarette chaahiye
In the parking lot, when Gus wants a cigarette
Kabhi muskaaye, kabhi chhede, hamesha baat kare
He sometimes smiles, sometimes teases, always talks
Kaise na bataye, Kaise na bataye
How can she not tell someone?
Cancer tan mann mein lage
Cancer invades the body and mind
Kaise na bataye, Kaise na bataye
How can she not tell someone?
To the tune of “Kal Ho Na Ho” (Kal Ho Na Ho)
“Whether Tomorrow Happens or Not”
Hazel sings her after reading her obituary for Gus
Har ghadi badal raha hai roop zindagi
Every minute life is changing form
Chaav hai kabhi, khabi hai dhoop zindagi
Sometimes life is a shadow and sometimes its sunny
Har ananta
Every infinity
Jee bhar jiyo, ek peir ke saath
Live to the fullest, with one leg
Kal ho na ho
Whether tomorrow happens or not
I can’t say that we would be opposed to seeing any nerdfighters attempt to sing along to the songs posted here with our lyrics. And if you wanted to share links to those videos in the comments, we might get really excited about it.
