Welcome to Elwich—an oasis of small-town perfection, where the schools overflow with cheery-eyed children, lovingly adorned homes line the historic boulevards . . . and only the crows can see the deep, festering rot that lurks beneath the pristine surface.
Murder.
Demonology.
Possession.
Obsession.
Elwich has them all on offer—and behind every dwelling awaits a horrifying new story to be told.
Shock, terror, and wry humor pepper every page of Emmy Award-winning, Eisner Award-nominated cartoonist and animator Jay Stephens’s Dwellings.

- Reviewed in the United States on May 12, 2024This was super fun! The graphics were cute and colorful, and reminded me of the Sunday comic strips like Peanuts. The difference is that these were very violent, gory, and contained foul language. Dwellings was a compilation of several stories in a haunted town, and I liked how each one either had characters or other elements from some of the other stories, which was a clever connection between them all. Each one was a completely different story of something macabre within the little town. Very fun and entertaining for a quick read, but this is definitely not for everyone.
- Reviewed in the United States on October 14, 2024I never would have thought that this style of illustration could be so gruesome and graphic, but it was and it is such a great read. I enjoyed how dark this was, and enjoyed the cute little snippets and "ads" that were throughout this story.
You should read this collection because master of the craft Jay Stephens put everything into this and I know that readers are going to love it.
- Reviewed in the United States on August 25, 2024This is a graphic novel of linked stories taking place in Elwich, which is said to be haunted as a town. The author uses this style that reminds me of the old Richie Rich comics but blends the cuteness of the style with dark themes. The juxtaposition really works, making the stories somehow seem more grotesque than if the artist uses more photorealistic styles. It is a bit over the top, but they work.
- Reviewed in the United States on June 19, 2024Dwellings by Jay Stephens magnificiently, twisted graphic novel set in a small-town where dark themes are everpresent and hidden by its charm. I loved the characters, their personalities and the witty, dark themes present throughout. The artwork and flow were exquisitely, charming.
- Reviewed in the United States on December 15, 2024Thank you Net Galley and Oni Press for the E-ARC. The pacing on this felt a little slow for me given that it was a graphic novel. I enjoyed the art style of it though.

- Reviewed in the United States on May 8, 2024This collection centers on the town of Elwich front and center. In this town, a terrible darkness abounds. Possessions, terrifying acts of cruelty, and horrendous accidents are all entwined. Each story builds an increasing and compounding amount of dread.
Dwellings is such a surprising read! I did not know exactly what I was getting into when I started this cartoon collection, but this was incredible. I never would have thought that this style of illustration could be so gruesome and graphic, but it was and it is such a great read. I enjoyed how dark this was, I also enjoyed the cute little snippets and "ads" that were throughout this story. They added such cute little evil details to track and provided little Easter Eggs to hunt for.
You should absolutely read this collection because master of the craft Jay Stephens really put everything into this and I know that readers are going to love it.
- Reviewed in the United States on May 30, 2024From the beginning, I was drawn into the world of Elwich, a place with “more hauntings per capita than any other place in Ontario.”
The book is a collection of six stories. The stories are short, so I don’t want to get too much into them because I honestly think everyone should experience them themselves. The stories are dark and gory, but if you can handle them and love scary stories, I highly recommend this one. It did not feel terrifying in any way, but it was definitely creepy and weird.
The art style was amazing. I loved the vintage feel in each of the stories, and there were even times when there were fake ADs in between, just like old comics.

5.0 out of 5 stars Una obra que te dejara pensando.
Que el arte no te engañe por que las historias que se desarrollan son interesantes y espeluznantes, en el buen sentido.
