- Reviewed in the United States on June 14, 2021I would like to start this review by saying "Thank you" EL James for writing this final installment of the FSOG as told by Christian. I am a big Fifty Shades fan & of the author & I am grateful that this book is finally here.
So, yes... we have waited for this final book for so long but I must say, it's worth the wait like most of the readers has said. For me, so many scenes I questioned in the previous books that has been answered...gaps been filled. In this book, I fully understood what's it like to be in Christian's head & heart. The roller coaster kind of emotion was at all time high & overwhelming but needed. The email banters between Christian & Ana is as always entertaining... Intimate scenes were hot as always & their chemistry, is off the charts.
My new favorite scenes from this book is of Christian & Elliot's (I enjoyed the character of Elliot here, finally getting a glimpse of him); Christian & Taylor's (gotta love Taylor) and Christian & of Grace & Carrick (this was emotional...it was short but meaningful) Overall, the wait is worth it...my heart is full & happy. It's a beautiful love story of two different people. We watched their characters grow over the years... There were times I want to spank Ana myself or Christian. But they slowly worked their differences & compromise to adopt life as one. I wish there was more to it like their life in the new house, Christian in the ER, Taylor & Gail’s moments) but the book was already girthy as it is without it. Any who…I love it.
Laters, baby!
- Reviewed in the United States on June 4, 2021This review is for Freed: Fifty Shades as told by Christian - ebook and audio book - though it encompasses the whole series. First the criticism:
This series was about Pacific Northwest Americans living in PNW America. I am one of those and have been all my life. I found it disconcerting when I came across terms and phrases that seemed more British than American - envisaged (envisioned); fetch (get); darling is not a common endearment in my experience except in the British books I read; duvet (comforter); sidelight is a window next to a door in the USA (lamp or bedside light); radio alarm (clock radio or just clock or just alarm); keen (excited, a fan of, into); straightaway (asap, on it, right away, immediately); rumbled (busted); rucksack (backpack, gym bag, tote); perspex (plexiglass or plastic); spill the beans (spill); and on her/his/your/my own (alone).
Customs: Plus a citizen of PNW USA knows that the last Monday in May and the first Monday in September are National holidays. They are major because they are the considered the book ends of Summer. Banks, schools and all Federal offices are closed in addition to most other businesses (except restaurants, department stores, grocery stores, hotels and the like.) Grey House and S.I.P. would be closed. Same day airline tickets would be scarce and expensive and TSA lines would be long on those days. In this country Daylight Savings Time begins at the end of March and ends in early November and is practiced in most of our states. The time span of the series is sandwiched in that time frame. Emails should read XDT not XST. I know, literary license. Christian being surprised and concerned about Ana driving in the rain was a bit ridiculous too.
But all that being said, I have really enjoyed all six books (the movies not so much). This latest book was really the cherry on top. It filled in so many gaps. Christian's thoughts and feelings (which seemed pretty obvious in 50 Shades Freed) were such a surprise. I loved all the details about him that were explained. I loved the deepening aspects of his relationship with Ana (I'm a happy ending kind of gal). I loved watching Christian's bond with and love of his family emerge and strengthen. I loved the birth certificate and the photos of his foster family. I just found the whole book to be a warm, happy experience.
Well, except for Elena. I loathe her. What a major bitch! I day dreamed about ways to hurt her. Thank you, Ms James for all your work. For me the wait was worth it.
A note about the audio book. Zachary Webber was amazing in all 3. He did so many voices so well. He didn't read the books, he performed them and I think he should get an Oscar for them (I know that's silly). I didn't agree with his pronunciation of some of the words. That's just a matter of personal preference though. Only one word really stuck in my craw. I flinched every time (and there weren't many) he said "Willamette". I suspect I wasn't the only one though because I noticed he said it perfectly 3 times in Freed. Thank you for your voice Mr. Webber.
- Reviewed in the United States on March 4, 2023Idk why I was behind on not owning this book cause I was on top of the first 3 and then the 2
From Christian’s point of view. I got addicted and then got addicted all over again with the ones on his side of the story. I guess with Covid and other things personally going on in my life just had my clueless about this last one. I knew there had to be a third one to come out sometime; and I heard after I found out it had been out for sometime that there was a delay on this one for some reason. I guess the time between the 2nd one and this last one just had me lost about hearing about this one coming out. And now I have it and I can’t stand to not be able to read it yet cause I’m currently reading a book at the moment and I won’t to finish what I’m on right now before starting this one. It is gonna be hard to not throw my current read down and just read this book but I’m gonna fight temptation and just hurry up on the book I’m on now so it will be that much better when I do finally get to read this one. I already know it is gonna be a great read;
It does kind makes me sad in a way cause that is the last one and that is it in this story. I will have to get some of EL James other books to read cause if I loved all of these fifty shades of 6 books; I’m sure I will love other stuff from this author. I own all the movies too. I have the regular ones and also the book looking collection series of each movie. I loved fifty
Shades.
But just like the twilight series! Everything that is so good has to eventually come to an end. Always. Got to make room for other stuff that we will love just like fifty shades, twilight, Lord of the rings, Harry Potter and etc.
Yeah, I love all kinds of genres of stories and even music. I’m very well rounded because of it too.

2.0 out of 5 stars Zeer matig geschreven, weinig vernieuwende.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Highlight of My Reading Year!
This novel filled my heart with glee. It was everything I had hoped for and more. I never wanted it to end.
Nine years ago this month, I first discovered Ana & Christian and ever since then their story has had a special place in my heart, so to get another book from Christian’s POV made me giddy with happiness.
Freed flowed perfectly from the end of Darker, giving the reader brand new chapters to devour. I was once again in Christian Grey heaven. Brand new scenes and more delightful emails to enjoy (I pretty much swooned my way through those). Throughout most of this story, I found myself with a huge grin on my face and laughing out loud at Christian’s sense of humour. Just like the previous books, this one gave me all the feels and I have to say that reading some of the more emotional scenes felt even more heartbreaking from Christian’s perspective. I’m not ashamed to say that I felt a little teary in some parts. It was once again an eye opening experience, discovering Christian’s true thoughts and feelings. He is such a beautiful man. And then to finish off was the most gorgeous epilogue. By the time I had turned the final page my heart was full and I felt even more in love with Christian & Ana, which I didn’t think was possible.
In my opinion, if you loved the Fifty Shades Series, reading these books told from Christian’s outlook are a must. I have adored every single one and after finishing Freed, I feel a reread of the entire series is due. I just can’t get enough of Mr & Mrs Grey and I secretly hope that maybe one day in the future EL James will gift us with another book or even a novella. Hell, I’d be happy with even a new paragraph. I’m always greedy for more when it comes to Fifty Shades.
Freed exceeded my expectations. It was absolute perfection from the get-go. I will now be jumping straight into the audiobook and watching the movies again. I’m obsessed and I don’t care one bit! Thank you, EL James, for giving us so much more. What a journey it has been.
