⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ "The moment I read the first sentence of the book's prologue, I knew I would love this book. I wasn't wrong." - CarpeFiction

Split Adam: Scion Saga Book 2
Specular: Scion Saga Book 3
Q: What inspired you to become an author?
A: I've always been an author. From the moment I put pen to paper at 3 ½ years old, I was an author. I've been writing short stories, lyrics, and poetry as far back as I have memory (3 y.o.). Now, what inspired me to become a published author is a completely separate answer.
Q: Do you have a specific writing style?
A: Abstract. Definitely abstract.
Q: Do you write in different genres?
A: Yes. Young Adult, Sci-Fi, Romance, Suspense, Paranormal, Thriller, and anything else that materializes in my mind. I don't limit myself when it comes to my writing.
Q: If yes which is your favorite genre to write?
A: Sci-Fi, Fantasy, and Romance are some of my faves right now. Fantasy is just so vast and opens your mind to anything you can think of. Nothing is off limits, especially when paired with Sci-Fi. Romance because it's filled with hope, love, companionship and remembrance.
Q: How did you come up with the title for your latest book?
A: The original title was Darkness in Light. I still have a soft spot in my heart for that title but I had to let it go because it was too common. One consistent theme of the book was the darkness of Adam's mind. That led me to Opaque. Adam's mind is an opaque object, where very little light enters and passes through.
Q: Do you title the book first or wait until after it's complete?
A: Both. Sometimes the title comes first. Usually, the story comes first and the title afterwards.
Q: If you had to choose, which writer would you consider a mentor?
A: Larry Strauss. Without a doubt. His spiritual light is just absolutely amazing. His writing is so amazing because he is.
Q: What is your current "work in progress" or upcoming projects?
A: Specular: Scion Saga Book 3 and an untitled paranormal thriller series.

- Reviewed in the United States on February 23, 2023I would give this book 5 out of 5 stars. Calix Leigh-Reign does an outstanding job developing the characters, engaging the reader, inserting multiple plot twists, creating a world with supernaturals and leaving us craving resolution through a sequel. The book masterfully allows the reader to experience the first person perspective of multiple different lead characters and in doing so provides many details that foreshadow what is to come. The reader gets a small glimpse of what it is to struggle with mental health, and while it puts our main character, Adam, in a very distasteful light at the beginning of the book, his struggles resolve slowly through the plot and we gain understanding and compassion for his character.
Through his girlfriend Carly, Adam is drawn into a world of supernaturals, after learning that he is one of them. The book is a plot-twisting urban fantasy, and is intriguing and fun for a wide variety of readers. Fantastic!
- Reviewed in the United States on April 26, 2020I read Opaque by Calix Leigh-Reign and I would give that book a 4/4 star rating. Even though there is only one typo in the entire book on page 242 I would not give this book a ¾ rating for this reason because the rest of the book is flawless and is impeccable in its writing.
The book follows a teenager named Adam who has always felt different than his peers. He resents the way everyone acts and the way the world works. He finally finds solace in the new girl in school, Carly. He is quickly thrust into a fantastic world he never could have imagined. A world full of surprises, love, trust, hard decisions, and danger. With the help of Carly and a new found set of friends he finally discovers why he has felt so set apart from everyone else.
There is a slight mention of an erotic scene between Adam’s parents in the beginning of the book. There is also a disturbing scene involving a local girl that made me cringe. Also, there is a slightly unorthodox feeling from Adam towards his mother for the first portion of the book that left me feeling uncomfortable, yet it is explained later in the book which made me understand why it was included. I would rate these scenes a 3/5. These scenes are the only thing in the book that I disliked at all.
What I liked most about the book is the in depth character development and twisting plot. The way that this book is written kept me interested because it sucks you into their world and keeps a hold of you until the end. I also enjoyed the very original idea behind this book. It kept me thirsty to know what happens next, a real page turner.
However, this book is definitely for young adults, because some of the content previously mentioned and the vast vocabulary. I had to look up some of the words to understand their meaning. For example, psithurism, which means the sound of the wind in the trees and rustling of leaves. Also, paroxysms, which means a sudden attack or violent expression of a particular emotion or activity. Words like that are littered throughout the book and confused me at first until I looked them up. However, I would definitely read the second book in the series, because this book was just that good.
- Reviewed in the United States on August 13, 2022Adam is a teenager who never felt like he compared to his peers. He viewed them as animals until he meets Carly. Carly is the new girl at his school whom he becomes involved with. With Carly’s help Adam learns he is not like other kids.
This book is a young adult book that, which should have more trigger warnings in the beginning than just the authors note that mentions taboo imperfections. Though that is true, if you are not able to separate fiction from non-fiction this book may not be for you. There are mentions of rape, depression, kidnapping, and an unorthodox relationship with Adams mother. Which is addressed later in the book.
I did like the book even with the taboo side of things, the author Calix, did a magnificent job with the character development and the details pertaining the story line. This was a page turner that always kept you guessing what would happen next! I’d definitely read the second book in the Saga.
- Reviewed in the United States on March 15, 2023I found the book to be very interesting. It was very difficult to get through at first. Why: the relationship between Adam and his mom at the beginning of the story. I did have to set it down and pick it back up multiple times over multiple days, just to get past that part of the book. It was just something that I had to justify in my mind was ok in order to move on in the story. Later this part was a little rectified, but was still a moral dilemma.
Once I had moved on from Adam and his mom’s relationship, I found the story fascinating and fast paced for a majority of it (there were some slow moments that indicated the passage of time, but had little impact on the story). I highly enjoyed the battle scenes with the descriptions and the characters' different uses of abilities. The relationship between Carly and her mother and the unconditional love that they have for each other was a bright light amidst the story. Their relationship was very well developed and illuminated throughout the story.
- Reviewed in the United States on November 7, 2020I was hooked right away. Adam is a bit broody but who wouldn't be if their cells weren't exploding inside their body? Character development is phenomenal. worldbuilding is imaginative. very vivid. The women/girl characters were written with strength and I loved that so much. Basically its about a teenage boy named Adam who hits puberty and his superpowers makes him think and feel stuff that makes others uncomfortable. He meets a girl named Carly who helps him discover why and that there others like him. After that, he gets better. I won't spoil the main plot but you will NOT be disappointed. Highly recommend

3.0 out of 5 stars Great
Beautiful descriptive writing which sucks you in within the first page
Did find some parts a bit odd at times, but that could just be me.
I felt bad for Adam as he goes through a difficult journey in his life.
He fights so many different types of problems trying to find himself in his world.
Adam is very confused and troubled all because of his powers and battles that are forming and he’s struggling with this. It’s a dangerous time.
I love that he becomes in a relationship, some normality for him.
Great storyline, and enough action to keep you going.
If you like fantasy, this is for you.
I especially loved the note right at the beginning of the book to the readers ❤️
