Claire Handscombe moved from Europe to DC in 2012, ostensibly to study for an MFA in Creative Writing, but actually – let’s be honest – because of an obsession with The West Wing. She is the author of Unscripted, a novel about a young woman with a celebrity crush and a determined plan, and the editor of Walk With Us: How The West Wing Changed Our Lives. She also hosts the Brit Lit Podcast, a fortnightly show of news and views from British books and publishing. Blog: the Brit Lit Blog. Twitter: @BookishClaire

I recently wrote a post rounding up some of Joanne Harris’ threads of Ten Things, which are bookish tips and tidbits she shares with Twitter.

People love those threads.

Most of her Ten Things are specifically for writers, and I, for one, am more than happy to take advice from someone so successful.

She has words of wisdom for those just starting out.

She has plenty to say on writing about women.

And sometimes she dispenses some much-needed tough love.

She has advice about getting published.

And she gets down into the nitty gritty of the craft.

And yep, she went there, too.

Hopefully, if you’re an aspiring writer, you’ve hit that “follow” button by now. If not…what are you still doing here?
