The Thing About Ebooks…

Welcome to Episode #5 of the Dear Book Nerd podcast! My guest co-host this week is the hilarious Dan Wilbur. Dan is a comedian, creator of Better Book Titles, and host of the Two-Book Minimum Podcast, a show in which authors and comedians chat about literature. (Be sure to check it out!)

Dan and I tackle two listener-submitted questions about the often hotly-debated topic of ebooks. We discuss whether or not ebooks are considered “real” books, why this is even a debate in the first place (and why it probably shouldn’t be), how ebooks will doom the future of reading (just kidding), things to think about when choosing an ereader, and much more. Enjoy!

Questions Discussed:

1) Dear Book Nerd,

I just recently started listening to your podcast and I really it, in fact it helped me get out of a reading slump. So thank you. Anyways, this has been bugging me for some time. I am wondering are e-books books? Of course I know that they are different format than say a hardcover or a paperback, but there are readers out there who, for some strange reason, think that e-books aren’t books. I realize that they aren’t books in the traditional sense, but are just books in a digital format. I love reading and actively read in both paper and digital formats and really don’t like the debate between the two.

2) Dear Book Nerd,

I am having a problem only a book nerd can understand and answer! I own a little over 5 bookcases FULL of books. I don’t have much more room for another bookcase but I am addicted to reading and in a weird way owning my books. Although I’m not a huge fan of ebooks (it takes away that bookstore adventure and the smell and feel of the pages) I’m coming around to the idea of buying most of my books on an e-reader. Which one would you suggest? Thank you so much!
