Letter From the Editor, August 2015
I send monthly updates on the what-nots and whatevers of Book Riot to our contributors and I recently had a light bulb moment: our readers would probably appreciate something like that. Therefore, I present unto my bookish brethren a monthly letter from the editor (that’s me), wherein I’ll gab about news you need, posts I’ve loved, books I’m reading, and whatever else catches my fancy:

Posts From Last Month That I Loved With Many Loves
Librarians are so rad, as evidenced by this parody of “Uptown Funk.” This letter from a father to his newborn daughter about how books work. This look at how authors are using tech in innovative ways. Leila is touring the world via female crime writers: first stop, Norway. This story about Tolkien performing an exorcism on a tape recorder…in Gothic. Books for people who love the movie Clue. These fandom-inspired quiet books are AMAZING.
Check This Box for Other
Welcome new Rioters Vanessa Willoughby, Jake Offenhartz, and Kelly Anderson! We’re so happy to have them and expect only greatness and works of magical genius from them. NO PRESSURE.
Books I’m Putting In My Face
Everything I’m reading these days is for Best Translated Book Award 2016 consideration, and man has it been an adventure. I’m knee-deep in Clarice Lispector’s Complete Stories. Yuri Herrera’s Signs Preceding the End of the World is everything I want when I read Cormac McCarthy, but don’t get. I’ve just started Sphinx by Anne Garreta, an experimental French novel from 1986 that tells a love story without the use of gender markers. Too soon for a verdict on that one, but I’m enjoying the ride.
That’s all for now. Thanks for reading our site. You’re my favorite people.

Managing Editor, Book Riot
