Warner Bros. Wonder Woman movie is still at least 2 years off, but I’ve been pretty much obsessed since we got our first glimpse of Gal Gadot in action at SDCC.

Gadot Wonder Woman

We still know next to nothing about the film. Patty Jenkins is directing and it’s maybe going to take place in the 1920s? I’m hoping they stick with more of a post-Crisis George Perez Wonder Woman origin story that places Diana in the present day. So while I’m stuck with no information about this movie, I have had a lot of time to plot my dreamcast.

THEMISCYRA

Hippolyta – Gina Torres
hippolyta_torresDo you really need an explanation for this one? If we can’t get Gina Torres as Wonder Woman, I think having her as Queen of the Amazons and Diana’s mother is the next best thing.

Artemis – Rosario Dawson
artemis_dawsonDiana needs a bestie on Themiscyra. For this I’m pulling directly from the animated Wonder Woman movie (which is seriously awesome). In the film, Artemis is the Amazon who’s constantly pushing Diana to fight harder, move faster, and be better. They’re competitive and balance each other out nicely. Rosario Dawson provides the voice for Artemis in Wonder Woman and I think she’d be perfect in the role on the big screen.

MODERN WORLD

Steve Trevor – Sung Kang
steve trevor_kangHave you seen Fast and Furious 6? No? Go watch it right now. I’m serious. Go; I’ll wait. If you really have seen FF6 (or Fast & Furious or Fast 5) you know there are electric levels of chemistry between Gal Gadot and Sung Kang. They elegantly kick-ass together and look adorable and in love doing it. Rumor has it Chris Pine is being cast as Steve Trevor. To quote Nick Fury, “I recognize the council has made a decision, but given that it’s a stupid-ass decision, I’ve elected to ignore it.” It’s Sung Kang for Steve Trevor or GTFO.

Etta Candy – Mindy Kaling
etta candy_kalingI love Etta Candy, you guys. Back in the 1940s comics, Etta was a quipping (and sometimes whipping–don’t ask) sorority house mother and ally to Woman Woman. Somewhere along the line they, quite rightly, made Etta an Air Force officer alongside Steve Trevor. For the movie, I’d love to see Etta as Diana’s best friend in our world. The one who takes Diana under her wing, teaches her everything she needs to know about modern and pop culture. Someone who’s massively smart and competent in addition to being “girly” in the ways Wonder Woman typically is not. I can think of no one better for this than Mindy Kaling.

Dr. Barbara Minerva – Freema Agyeman
cheetah_freemaGiven the tone of the recent DC movies, I’m sure there’s going to be some kind of shadowy military council sent in to investigate Diana. I had the idea that expert in ancient cultures they send to check out Wonder Woman is Dr. Barbara Ann Minerva, better known in the comics as the Cheetah. It’s a great nod to comics fans AND an introduction to a future villain. One of my all time favorite doctors dealing with cases outside the ordinary is Martha Jones, and Freema Agyeman definitely has the range and depth as an actor to play a villain.

THE VILLAIN

Circe – Natalie Dormer
circe_dormerBut the Cheetah is not the villain I’d go for just yet. For this first film I think a stronger foil to Diana would be a better choice. Wonder Woman’s greatest weapon is her Lasso of Truth; I love the idea of her nemesis being based in illusion and deception. To relish in the role of the Loki to Wonder Woman’s Thor, I can think of no one better than Natalie Dormer.

THE GODS

Athena – Emma Watson
athena_watsonI know Emma Watson is super young. But in addition to playing the smartest witch of her age and graduating from Brown University, Watson is also the UN Women Goodwill Ambassador, where she launched the HeforShe campaign. The lady is brilliant and feminist. I think she has the grace and poise to pull of a goddess.

Aphrodite – Laverne Cox
aphrodite_cox_2There’s a great line in an issue of Wonder Woman (that I of course cannot find) that says, “Aphrodite’s law decrees that all living things be treated with loving kindness.” While the Beauty of Aphrodite is one of the gifts traditionally bestowed on Wonder Woman, the Goddess’ love and empathy are what make her so relevant to Diana. Gorgeous and compassionate, Laverne Cox is the perfect Aphrodite.

Ares – Helen Mirren
ares_mirrenAres has always been the classic Wonder Woman Big Bad. Which is probably why I like the idea of holding off on using Ares as the villain until a later movie. I’d use the God of War as a tease in the post credit scene of the first movie; the Thanos to Wonder Woman’s Avengersverse. I picture a cold, calculating, and bloodthirsty Ares played brilliantly by Helen Mirren.
