Who’s looking for more exciting book news? You’ve come to the right place, friends. There are a whole lot of book things going on right now, so let’s just hop right into it!
Disney+ has ordered a pilot episode for a gender-swapped Holes TV series. The series would be based on the Louis Sachar novel of the same name. Liz Phang (Yellowjackets, The Haunting of Hill House) will serve as showrunner and executive producer. Alina Mankin (Katy Keene, Lodge 49) will write and executive produce. Walden Media, who also produced the 2003 film adaptation of Holes, will produce the pilot.
An adaptation of Anna Huang’s Twisted Love series is coming to Netflix! Huang took to Instagram to announce the news, telling her fans, “I hope you’re as excited as I am because I cannot wait to see the Twisted universe come to life!! This couldn’t have happened without YOU, my amazing readers, and I’m so thrilled to take you on this new journey with me.” No cast members have been announced yet.
Crave author Tracy Wolff is being sued for copyright infringement. Author Lynne Freeman claims the plot is similar to her own werewolf manuscript Blue Moon Rising. Wolff and Liz Pelletier, the CEO of Entangled Publishing, both claim they have never read Blue Moon Rising or heard of Freeman.
Appropriately, Sulari Gentill announced her new book cover in a first class cabin of a train. Five Found Dead, a mystery set on the Orient Express, hits shelves on August 19 from Poisoned Pen Press.
Rachel Zegler is being considered to star in an upcoming Phantom of the Opera adaptation. It is rumored that Zegler could star as Christine in a new YA adaptation of Gaston Leroux’s gothic horror romance The Phantom of the Opera, which was also famously adapted into a musical by Andrew Llyod Webber. The project would air on Disney+.
Director Andy Muschietti is giving fans a little taste of what we can expect from the upcoming series Welcome to Derry, which serves as a prequel to Stephen King’s It. “It’s a story that’s based on the interludes of the book. The interludes are basically chapters that reflect Mike Hanlon’s research,” Muschietti told Radio TU. “So they talk about catastrophic events from the past, like the fire in the Black Spot, the massacre of the Bradley Gang, a gang of bank robbers in the ’30s, and the explosion of the Kitchener Ironworks. Every time Pennywise comes out of hibernation, there is a catastrophic event that happens at the beginning of that cycle…We are basing the three seasons of this series on each of these catastrophic events.” Muschietti plans for the show to run for three seasons. Welcome to Derry is coming to HBO later this year and will be nine episodes.
