While Ian Fleming created James Bond and wrote thirteen 007 novels,  British spy novelist John Gardner actually wrote three more Bond novels than Fleming did after he picked up the series in 1981. His sixteen Bond novels included thirteen original novels and three novelizations of Bond movies. Gardner also wrote a three novel series continuing the story of another famous literary character: Sherlock Holmes’ arch-nemesis Professor Moriarty.
