The Most Read Books on Goodreads This Week

Rebecca Yarros’s stranglehold on the Most Read Books on Goodreads is starting to loosen, if only slightly. This week, only two of the Empyrean books are in the top five: Iron Flame has dropped to number six. It’s been pushed out by another romantasy sequel making its debut in the top five. The number one spot has been taken by a sequel in another series you might recognize!

These Are the Memoirs You Should Be Reading Right Now

If you’re a huge memoir fan like me, your TBR is probably up to your eyeballs (I know mine is!). There are so many incredible memoirs and books of personal essays hitting shelves all the time. So to help you narrow down your TBR, here are a few recent must-reads.

The 8 Most Underrated Horror Books

The way readers feel about what scares them is so very different. I personally find realistic horror the scariest, where others might be bored by reading something that close to the real world. It’s not surprising, then, that reviews for horror books sway harshly from one to five stars. It’s rare when we all can find a book to agree on. So, there are bound to be books that are left under the radar because they just didn’t vibe with all the readers who picked them up. So, here are the eight most underrated horror books worth reading despite their low average rating.

Trump vs. Ventriloquist: Who’s the Real Puppet?

My original plan for the final part of this miniseries was to do Trump vs. Red Skull. A shameless Nazi with a bizarrely colored face? How could I resist?

And yet, the deeper we plunge into the flaming, festering hell pit that is Trump’s second term, the more I begin to wonder if I’m entirely on the right track. MAGA’s fake geek guys might even view these villainous comparisons as compliments. More importantly, am I giving Trump too much credit?

Indigenous Poets You Should Know

You have likely heard of Mvskoke poet, activist, and performer Joy Harjo, who is the first ever Native American U.S. Poet Laureate. Her work has been hugely influential for poets, Indigenous and otherwise. Her poems are full of emotion and strength and humor and beauty. One doesn’t get to be a country’s poet laureate on a lark, after all.

And she’s not alone. In fact, there are simply too many amazing Indigenous poets (North American or otherwise) to capture all on one list.
