If you lived through the ’90s, you’re probably familiar with teen and pre-teen thriller author R.L. Stine. His Goosebumps and Fear Street series graced the shelves of many a 5th grader, and the covers are a study in early to mid-’90s fashion.

Included with almost every nostalgia-inducing Fear Street cover was a line intended to pull the potential reader further in and start unraveling the horrific mystery each book had to offer. Here is a list of the best cover lines from R.L. Stine’s Fear Street. They’re pretty special.

Sunburn: The perfect tan…or the perfect murder?

College Weekend: She was just dying to visit her boyfriend…

One Evil Summer: Chrissy is perfect—perfectly evil.

Wrong Number 2: Call waiting…to kill!

Final Grade: Will Lily get an A+ in murder?

First Date: That’s when he always kills them.

The Knife: In this hospital people are dying…to get out!

Silent Night: Happy holidays—you’re dead!

The Boy Next Door: They were flirting—with death.

Ski Weekend: It was a perfect setting—for murder!

The Secret Bedroom: Don’t open that door!

All Night Party: Party till you drop…dead.

And, perhaps the best and most mind-numbingly puzzling of all:

Cat: C-A-T spells murder.
