Hi! My name is Nessa Bellido Schwarz and I am the children’s book author of the chapter book series, GEORGE the Flybot. Each book in the series interweaves historical facts, high-tech gadgetry, and humor with universal themes of friendship, fitting in, and embracing one’s uniqueness.

Elementary school readers will enjoy the real-life mysteries, the fun spin on search and discovery of lost artifacts, and the insightful observations on humanity from an “outsider” like GEORGE. I hope that you all love reading about GEORGE and his adventures as much as I have loved writing him. Thank you for letting me share him with you today.

What I’m Reading

cover of A Room Made of Leaves by Kate Grenville

Lately, I’ve been loving a historical fiction by Kate Grenville, A Room Made of Leaves, a beautifully written story. Also, I love reading middle grade fiction; so, right now I’m reading The Puppets of Spelhorst by Kate DiCamillo.

The Books That Shaped Me

Cover of Esperanza Rising

The books that shaped me are – well, too many to count, but my number one pick would be the Little House books by Laura Ingalls Wilder. Other books, like Ann M. Martin’s A Corner of the Universe, and Pam Munoz Ryan’s Esperanza Rising have stayed with me and have been formative to my career. I keep these books, and many others, by my bedside to read whenever I need inspiration to keep writing.

More Good Stuff

GEORGE the Flybot and the Lost Camera on Mount Everest was recently shortlisted for the Sunshine State Young Readers Award (SSYRA) Junior award!

I will also be attending ALA (the American Library Association’s Annual Conference and Exhibition) and signing copies at the Sequoia Kids Media booth #1425.
