According to publisher Farrar, Straus and Giroux, Find Me is expected to hit shelves on October 29, 2019. The sequel will revisit young lovers Elio and Oliver, as well as prominently featuring Elio’s father. The publisher has given us a hint of what to expect in the new book:

“In Find Me, Aciman shows us Elio’s father Samuel, now divorced, on a trip from Florence to Rome to visit Elio, who has become a gifted classical pianist. A chance encounter on the train leads to a relationship that changes Sami’s life definitively. Elio soon moves to Paris where he too has a consequential affair, while Oliver, now a professor in northern New England with sons who are nearly grown, suddenly finds himself contemplating a return visit to Europe.”

The 2017 film adaptation of Call Me By Your Name, starring Timothée Chalamet and Armie Hammer, earned an impressive amount of recognition, including four Oscar nominations and a win for Best Adapted Screenplay. Following the movie’s success, Aciman thrilled fans with the announcement that a sequel was in the works.

In a statement, Aciman shared that the world of Elio and Oliver never left him. “Though I created the characters and was the author of their lives, what I never expected was that they’d end up teaching me things about intimacy and about love that I didn’t quite think I knew until I’d put them down on paper. The film made me realize that I wanted to be back with them and watch them over the years — which is why I wrote Find Me.”

The written sequel is now official, but fans will have to wait and see if a film adaptation will follow. Although Armie Hammer said in a recent interview that Call Me By Your Name 2 would be “setting ourselves up for disappointment,” a film sequel has been rumored since the first movie’s release. But until then, we’ll look to Aciman for more on the lives of Elio, Oliver, and Samuel.
