This Weekend, Check Out the Largest Free Literary Event in NYC
This weekend, the twelfth annual Brooklyn Book Festival sets up shop at historic Borough Hall in Downtown Brooklyn. A week’s worth of “Bookend Events” around the city take place from September 10 to September 17.
The main event is on Sunday, September 16, and will feature readings, panels, and signings from many of your favorite authors—from Brooklyn and beyond.
And of course, as always, there will be oodles of books for sale.
Notable authors appearing at this year’s festival include Alexander Chee, Jennifer Egan, Martin Amis, N.K. Jemisin, Morgan Jerkins, Joyce Carol Oates, and Amber Tamblyn. You can see a full list of authors here.
On Saturday, September 15, the popular Children’s Day event takes place at the Metrotech Commons. Teachers are invited to a special morning event with Jacqueline Woodson, National Ambassador for Young People’s Literature, and there are tons of readings and activities to keep young people engaged throughout the day.
One of the most popular aspects of the festival is the Marketplace, featuring booths with publishers and sellers from around the world. Popular Brooklyn independent bookstores like Greenlight, Word, and Community Bookstore will have tents full of new and popular titles for sale. Writers can meet editors and publishers at tents for literary mags like The Rumpus, The Paris Review, Tin House, and more.
There’s something for everyone at the Brooklyn Book Festival, and the best part is that it’s all completely free!
