Obnoxious Bangers vs. a Book on Tape: Can I Run to it?

Born in Alaska and raised in Missouri, Anna made her way back to The Last Frontier 9 years ago with her amazing husband and cats in tow. She earned her Bachelor’s degree in Anthropology with an emphasis in Native American Studies from Missouri State University. Her favorites: family, cats, reading & writing, K-pop, hip hop, photography, wandering around the woods, red wine, and Saturday mornings.

Confession: I hate running. I mean I really hate it. I try to run at least 3 times a week anywhere from 2 to 10 miles (let’s be honest, the 10-miler happened once) and without fail I end up hating pretty much hating every mile. Each mile sucks. Every mile is hard. But, as Nike’s motto goes, I just do it. Could a bomb a** book on tape save me?

What gets me though my runs is an embarrassing playlist of obnoxious bangers. I’m not going to give any specific examples, but let me just say there’s a Spotify station aptly named, “Workout Twerkout” and I’ve “favorited” it.

I’ve seen some posts from bloggers about their favorite podcasts and/or books on tape to listen to whilst running. I’ve got to be honest, I’ve yet to try either, but that’s not to say I’m not interested. I’m just super hesitant. I mean, when an advertisement comes on and interrupts whatever embarrassing banger I’m listening to at the time I cannot help thinking about stopping, puking, passing out, quitting, or just how stupid this hobby of mine is.

So fellow readers/runners, please enlighten me. What book on tape could possibly distract me from the inevitable pain and suffering this extracurricular habit of mine produces?
