Real Simple magazine has selected what they think is the best bookstore in each state. What do you think of their picks?


America’s public education system is failing the citizens of Detroit, where the Detroit Regional Workforce Fund reports that 47% of people in Detroit are illiterate. In nearby suburbs, up to one-third are functionally illiterate.

JFC. That’s all I can think to say.


Though publishers are notoriously cagey about money, industry sources say the advances paid to celebrities are considerably higher than the amounts usually doled out to children’s writers, whose contracts are won on talent rather than fame. Which explains the resentment many authors feel towards these incomers.

Are the huge advances that go to celebrity children’s book authors pushing out not famous writers? Seems that way.
