Rachel Smalter Hall may be a professional Book Rioter, but she still hangs out in the public librarian clubhouse. Two of her top three loves include audiobooks and knitting, and her favorite song is Cold Hearted Snake as performed by Alyssa Edwards and Coco Montrese on season 5 of RuPaul’s Drag Race. She co-runs a boozy book club in Lawrence, Kansas, in her spare time. Twitter: @rach_smalls Website: Rachel Smalter Hall

To be honest, we weren’t sure what to expect at Book Riot Live just a few days after a devastating US election. Would anyone — including ourselves — be in the mood for cocktail parties, sing-alongs, games, and general bookish shenanigans?

It turns out, spending time with a beautiful community offered just what we all needed: safety, inclusion, restoration, healing, catharsis.

Check out the Storify stream for all the high points that our attendees captured, including: a sobfest of a sing-along with actual Broadway singers, Pictionary with legit comic book artists, an unexpected conversation about nipples between Walter Mosley and Rebecca Schinsky, and so much more.

And above all: thanks to all of you for being our community. GROUP HUG.
