Inbox/Outbox: October 28th, 2016

Such a good week for book mail, y’all! Take a look:

Inbox (Books Acquired)

Battle Hill Bolero by Daniel José Older (January 3, ROC)– I did some embarrassing heavy breathing when I opened this package. THAT COVER, it’s amazing. If you haven’t read any of Older’s Bone Street Rumba series, get on it: super-fun speculative fiction set in the Brooklyn! Also, did I mention the cover? Look at the cover. Do it again. Thank you.

Roseblood by A.G. Howard (January 10, Amulet Books)–A YA retelling of The Phantom of the Opera! Hooray!

Outbox (Books Finished)

A Scot in the Dark by Sarah MacLean–The second book in MacLean’s Scandal & Scoundrel series, based on current celebrity gossip culture. This one reimagines the leaked celebrity nude in the Regency era (so the digital photo becomes a painting, though the dude who paints it is right out of a MRA sub-reddit). The heroine, the subject of a nude painting that has ruined her reputation, must deal with her Scottish guardian who is determined to protect her from the scandal. It’s hella feminist, and has many kilts. Do the thing.

In the Queue (What I’m Reading Next)

The Reader by Traci Chee– After her father is brutally murdered, Sefia flees her home with her aunt and takes with her a strange rectangular object her father died to protect. She later figures out the object is a book, and after her aunt is kidnapped, she tries to use it to solve the mystery of where she’s been taken. An epic YA fantasy adventure about the magic of reading? Yes, please. Also, there are pirates.

That’s it for me! How was your week in reading?
