5 Bookish Moments with Jess from Gilmore Girls

Last month it was announced that Gilmore Girls was being revived by Netflix… and there was much rejoicing on the internet and in our hearts.

All this fresh Gilmore Girls enthusiasm has led to a revival of the old Which Boy Is Right For Our Beloved Rory fight debate.

You’ve got your die hard Logan fans. You’ve got the occasional Dean holdout. And then you have Team Jess.

I’ll spare you my detailed thoughts on this subject, but I will present you with this list of 5 times Jess Mariano was his super-bookish self. Because maybe he was the right guy for Rory, or maybe not. But either way, you have to admit: this guy knows his books.

5 Bookish Moments with Jess Mariano from Gilmore Girls

So without further ado, here are 5 bookish moments with Jess Mariano from Gilmore Girls:

1. That time he stole Rory’s copy of Howl by Allen Ginsberg so he could annotate it.

2. When Rory and Jess debated Ernest Hemingway and Ayn Rand.

3. When he called Rory a book tease.

4. The self-help tapes.

(After some goofy self-help tapes and books help Luke realize he’s into Lorelai, he passes them on to Jess… and if I’m remembering right, Lorelai catches Jess with the book in his bag and makes fun of him.

But it’s already worked it’s magic. The whole self help tape thing is one of my favorite scenes in Gilmore Girls, ever.)

5. And last but not least, that time he wrote a book.

As Kerry Winfrey puts it, “I like to imagine a world where he and Rory end up together, arguing about Ayn Rand and Ernest Hemingway for the rest of their lives.”
