Inbox/Outbox: January 22, 2016

In Inbox/Outbox, we document the rhythm of readers’ lives by sharing comics we acquired, the comics we finished, and the next comics we plan to read each week.

Inbox (Comics Acquired)

power-rangers-0Mighty Morphin Power Rangers #0 by Kyle Higgins, Steve Orlando, Mairghread Scott, Daniel Bayliss, Corin Howell, and Hendry Prasetya (BOOM! Studios)

The Power Rangers became a THING after my childhood, so I never quite got into them, but from what I’ve heard about this comic series, and the gorgeousness of the issue #0 covers, I’m HERE FOR THIS.

Bakuman by Tsugumi Ohba and Takeshi Obata (Viz Media)

I just picked up this whole series (15 volumes), and am excited to dive in. This manga is about a duo who decide to create manga and what it takes to succeed as successful manga creators. As someone who doesn’t know a lot about that world, I’m excited to learn (and it seems like it’ll be a fun story.)

Outbox (Comics Finished)

phoenix-requiemThe Phoenix Requiem, Chapter 1 by Sarah Ellerton (Webcomic)

A fantasy setting reminiscent of Victorian times, a romance, and a female main character who’s a doctor. AND it’s a webcomic, available for free online (if you love it, like I do, you can buy print volumes) and complete, so you can binge read it. I have a feeling I’m going to read the entire thing soon.

New Romancer #1 by Peter Milligan, Brett Parson, and Todd Miller (Vertigo)

Lexy is a coder for an Internet dating app that is in desperate need of revitalization, and she uses algorithms based on the best romancers of history. Somehow, she brings Lord Byron to life through her programming, as well as other, more sinister historical characters. It’s a wacky premise, but I’m intrigued enough by the first issue to be in for more.

In the Queue (What I’m Reading Next)

mind-mgmt-1MIND MGMT, Vol. 1 by Matt Kindt (Dark Horse Comics)

I don’t know much about this series, but Matt Kindt is a creator I’ve been wanting to explore more. It features a young journalist who is investigating a flight in which all the passengers aboard lost their memories, and her search leads her to the top-secret MIND MGMT program.

Chewbacca #1–5 by Gerry Duggan and Phil Noto (Marvel)

I wanted to read this series, about one of my favorite Star Wars characters, the second it was announced, but since it’s a limited run, I decided to wait until all the issues were released. Well, the last issue came out in December, and I am ready to dive in!
