Our daily round-up of news around the comics space, from the gutters and beyond.
“According to the Redland Daily Facts newspaper, Shultz claimed that “It was shocking, I didn’t expect to open the book and see that graphic material within. I expected Batman and Robin, not pornography.” The student brought forward the complaint after the point at which she could drop the course without receiving a failing grade.”
Yeah nooooooooo. So not okay with this.
“Even early on, they were publishing important women like Julie Doucet,” said Hillary L. Chute, a University of Chicago professor and a cultural critic who specializes in comics. “They’re important to what feminism and comics looks like.”
Drawn and Quarterly’s 25th anniversary book is gorgeous, so I love seeing them get mainstream press for it, and for their mission. If you haven’t picked it up, it’s so worth having on your shelves.
“With Captain America: Civil War currently filming in Atlanta, the pressure on Marvel and Sony to cast a Spider-Man is high. So it is that yesterday, rumors emerged that the short list has been whittled down to four actors – Tom Holland and Charlie Rowe, rumored to be the front-runners, with Matthew Lintz and Charlie Plummer still in contention.”
I’m curious to see who they cast, but I’d be much more interested if there was a diverse actor on this list.
