Our daily round-up of news around the comics space, from the gutters and beyond.

“Barack Obama revealed a childhood love for comic books this week in an email he sent to constituents, soliciting Organizing for Action supporters to share how they got involved with the president’s organization.”

This does not surprise me in the least, but I love it.

“Exclusively revealed on Wired today (although the cover was accidentally leaked on 4Chan last night), the new Avengers team — Ultimate Spider-Man, Sam Alexander as Nova, Kamala Khan’s Ms. Marvel, Vision, the female Thor, Sam Wilson’s Captain America and Iron Man — will make their debut on Free Comic Book Day.”

I am so excited about this new Avengers lineup. Diversity FTW! (Also, we don’t know who’s in that Iron Man suit, yes? We assume Tony but….)

“There’s a reason we didn’t grow up on stories of Batman killing everyone. And that reason is an organization called the Comics Code Authority.”

If you’ve been reading comics for awhile, or know their history, the Comics Code Authority is old news, but if you’re a newbie, this is worth a read.
