Critical Linking: December 17th, 2014

There’s much to look forward to next year in the world of fiction. Here, in order of release dates, are the books we can’t wait to read in 2015:

2015 looks to be another interesting year, with these 25 books leading the way.

Science fiction author Neal Stephenson has become the “Chief Futurist” of Magic Leap, an augmented reality company that made news this year after Google led a $542 million round of funding for it.

I didn’t even know I always wanted to be a “chief futurist.”

Norman Bridwell, creator of the popular Clifford the Big Red Dog series of children’s books turned into a PBS TV show, has died.

Clifford is such an iconic character that it’s hard to remember that someone had to create him.

In the U.S., Nowell noted that reading rated at the top of leisure activities for kids 0-10; it drops for kids11-13 it drops, and then at 14-17 reading is completely superceded by social media and other forms of entertainment. Addressing this drop, and finding ways to engage readers of these ages, is a key challenge for publishers to address.

Dang teenagers.

We run a pretty sweet little bookish Instagram account, if we do say so ourselves (and we do). Come check it out.
