Lily King’s “Euphoria” has won the first-ever Kirkus Prize for Fiction. The award is one of three new $50,000 prizes announced Thursday evening by the publishing industry journal Kirkus at a ceremony in Austin, Texas.

Lily King is an author more readers should know. Glad for her win.


“We received more support and financing in 25 hours from Joan’s readers than we have in 3 years of meetings with financiers and producers. It’s been a total validation for our team and this project.”

The negotiations with Diaz led to Barnes & Noble and Prestige chairman Sam Shalem agreeing on a lease extension with no rent increase that will keep the bookseller in the Bronx through 2016.

“This is incredible,” said Amelia Zaino, a Fordham graduate student who started an online petition to keep the store open. “It’s just a shock that so many people responded and stood up fot this. I’m humbled.”
