100 Words Every High School Graduate Should Know

It’s Friday. Not a bad time to shake off the cobwebs of a long week with a little refresher (and judging by my performance, I needed it)


Any semi-serious Scrabble player knows that it doesn’t matter what you and your friends agree on as legitimate words — it only matters which ones are in the official Scrabbledictionary. But now, you could actually have a say on what’s in that dictionary: on Facebook, Hasbro is allowing fans to submit words that they’d like to see added to the dictionary, and one of them will be chosen for the book’s update this year.

I think I am going to nominate…..listicle.


Ten percent of the U.S. adult population can be categorized as library lovers, while 30 percent are highly engaged with public libraries, and an additional 39 percent have a medium level of engagement with libraries, according to new metrics from Pew Research Center. 

So, 79% of Americans have at least a medium engagement with libraries? That seems pretty robust.


 But on Wednesday, NYPL president Tony Marx announced that he was “astounded” to learn that Fields had left his organization $6 million in her will. Her executor explained the massive gift thusly: “One of her great joys was spending the weekend reading with her husband.”

Just fabulous.
