Critical Linking: October 25th, 2013

The BBC has revealed the cast for new magic drama series Jonathan Strange and Mr Norrell, based on the bestselling novel by Susanna Clarke. BBC One’s seven-part series will star Eddie Marsan (Filth) and Bertie Carvel (Restless,Matilda) in the lead roles of Jonathan Strange and Mr Norrell.

Could be really fun.

The persistence of the rumor reflects the curious, cloistered upbringing of the Brontës, but also the more universal experience of siblings. Collaboration and competition between brothers and sisters exists no matter their vocations, but literary siblings challenge our assumptions of lonely genius, isolated writers alone at their desks.

Good read on literary siblings.

The Counselor achieves the almost unheard-of daily double of giving us the most outrageous sex scene of the year AND the most unforgettably brutal murder of the year. This is a badass journey from start to finish.

Early reviews of The Counselor (with screenplay by Cormac McCarthy) are pretty interesting.
