Cuban-American author Oscar Hijuelos died on Saturday, October 12, at the age of 62.  In 1989, he became the first Hispanic author to win the Pulitzer Prize for fiction with his novel The Mambo Kings Play Songs of Love. It is fitting, perhaps, that his last book was a memoir, titled Thoughts Without Cigarettes. While this is an incomplete picture at best, here’s a look at the author and his work.
