Critical Linking: September 26th, 2013

Universal Pictures and Imagine Entertainment’s Brian Grazer have closed a deal with the John Steinbeck estate for a new version of his seminal novel East Of Eden that will be developed as a re-team for The Hunger Games director Gary Ross and Jennifer Lawrence. I’m told that the book is Ross’ favorite American novel and that the director plans to tell the generational story in two films.

This is very, very difficult role. If she can do it well, then that “this generation’s Meryl Streep” talk won’t just be talk.

We are proud to honor the great designer with this postcard collection of his fifty best book covers, works of art in their own right.

Alvin Lustig was one of the great cover designers of the 20th century. And these are a great idea.

“Invisible Man” will return to Randolph County Schools’ high school libraries. The Randolph County Board of Education voted Wednesday evening to restore the book to the county schools.

Order restored.

His works are an integral part of our literary canon, but a third of British people were unable to name Charles Dickens as the author of Great Expectations in a new survey.Thirty-one per cent of adults were clueless as to the authorship of the Victorian classic, while one in six were unable to identify William Shakespeare as the writer of Hamlet.

I shudder to think of the stats if this were done in America.

I found out earlier today that a very small number of readers received finished copies of Allegiant already, instead of on October 22nd, due to a Canadian shipping error that has since been fixed.

Whoa…….someone could break the internet if they wanted to. Or they could send it to me. Then it would be safe. That’s it “safe.”
