We Practice Charity: Book Riot Continues Partnership with Reach Out and Read

Book Riot is different.

We’ve built charity into our DNA. We donate two percent of all revenue – no funny math, just 0.02 times total revenue – to organizations nominated and voted upon by our community. Our leadership decided this prior to raising capital and well before we earned our first dollar. Our business plan states it. We’re committed.

Earlier this year, Book Riot readers chose Reach Out and Read to receive our first donation of 2012. Reach Out and Read “is an evidence-based nonprofit organization that promotes early literacy and school readiness in pediatric exam rooms nationwide by giving new books to children and advice to parents about the importance of reading aloud.”

We’ve had a wonderful time working with the folks at Reach Out and Read, and we believe in what they’re doing, so we have extended our partnership through the remainder of 2012. Many thanks to all of you who have helped make Book Riot’s first year, and our partnership with Reach Out and Read, so successful!

“…the best means of benefiting the community is to place within its reach the ladders upon which the aspiring can rise…” – Andrew Carnegie
