This week, the good folks at Blank on Blank unearthed a lost interview that Jason Feifer conducted with actress Amber Heard (The Rum Diary, Zombieland, Pineapple Express) in 2011. Feifer, who was working on a piece for Women’s Health magazine, expected the chat to focus on “Hollywood life, and her personal style, and all that boring stuff” and was pleasantly surprised when the talk turned instead to books.

Heard reflects on reading Animal Farm and realizing that “it upset or endangered the comforts of being part of the problem,” reveals that she’s writing fan mail to Salman Rushdie, and discusses how literature encouraged her stop sitting pretty and shutting up. Have a listen, and tell us about the books that helped you find your voice in the comments.
