Netflix, in their continuing effort to adapt all your faves, has announced a talent-loaded adaptation of the post apocalyptic thriller Bird Box by Josh Malerman. Production will start in August.

Oscar winner Sandra Bullock will star as a mother of two young children trying to survive in a world where one glimpse at an unknown thing drives anyone to deadly violence. To escape, they must make a twenty-mile river journey in a rowboat—blindfolded—with nothing to rely on but her wits and the children’s trained ears.

Oscar-winning Danish director Susanne Bier (In a Better World, Brothers, Serena) will direct the film. Oscar-nominated Eric Heisserer, who wrote The Arrival, has penned the screenplay.

Dylan Clark (Rise of the Planet of the Apes, Obvlivion), Clayton Townsend (The 40 Year-Old Virgin, Knocked Up, Bridesmaids, JFK), and Chris Morgan (Fast & Furious 6 & 7, 2017’s The Mummy, The Troop) will produce.

Netflix chief Scott Stuber had been developing the movie at Universal, but brought the project with him when he moved to Netflix.

As with every adaptation, I’m cautiously excited. This could be a killer movie if they do it well. What do you think? Will you be watching out for this one?
