HBO’s adaption of the critically acclaimed bestseller The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks by Rebecca Skloot will premiere April 22, 2017 at 8pm. The book is about the legacy of Henrietta Lacks and the immortal cell line taken from her cervical cancer cells in 1951 without her consent.

Directed by George C. Wolfe, the movie stars Oprah Winfrey, Damages‘s Rose Byrne, Hamilton star Renée Elise Goldsberry, and Courtney B. Vance. The film follows Henrietta Lacks’ daughter, Deborah Lacks (Winfrey) as she searches alongside journalist Rebecca Skloot (Byrne) to understand how the mother she never knew led to the development of the AIDS cocktail, chemo treatments, in vitro fertilization, and gene mapping.
